Mizoram's Malayalees celebrate Onam

Aizawl, Sep 5 (UNI) Celebrations as part of the Onam festival got off to a colourful start in Mizoram today with a cultural extravaganza showcasing the traditional and folk art forms of Kerala.

Malayalees under the banner of Kerala Cultural Forum (KCF) assembled here to present floral tribute to greet the demon king Mahabali to mark the traditional harvest festival of Onam.

Scores of people including locals, flocked the yard of Babutlang Durga Mandir and greeted each other to make the situation auspicious.

KCF Secretary Saji Kumar said that various cultural programmes and sports events were to be organised among the school children to mark the occasion.

A traditional feast was also arranged to make the festival memorable.
