India can help other developing nations in water harvesting: Soz

Pune, Sep 5 (UNI) Union Water Resources Minister Professor Saifuddin Soz has said the country should have better interaction with developed countries in order to develop modern technology so that India could assist many Third World countries in water harvesting and other sectors.

Interacting with reporters after visiting the Centre for Water Resources Academy at Khadakwasala, near here yesterday, Mr Soz observed that the recent floods in various parts of the country should be dealt by the respective state governments after establishing the pros and cons leading to the situation and find ways and means to control it.

The Union government was also trying to know the reason of the floods in various parts of the country, he noted.

The Minister said the Centre has initiated the Irrigation Benefit Programme, which will benefit the farmers of the country. An advisory committee has been constituted to increase the level of ground water in various states where the level has been going down year by year.
