Guj Govt intensifies security for Ganesh Visarjan

Surat, Sep 5 (UNI) The Gujarat government has intensified security arrangement by deploying nine companies of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Rapid Action Force (RAF), besides about 4,000 policemen and home guards, here to oversee the immersion ceremony of Lord Ganesh on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the last day of the ten-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

Police said about 10 Superintendents of Police (SPs), 12 Deputy SPs, 60 Police Inspectors and 40 Sub-Inspectors will monitor the security arrangement.

They have also urged the people not to play blaring disco music and avoid gathering in large numbers in order to avoid any untoward incident. Women, children and ill persons were also asked to stay indoors, police added.

Mayor Kanubhai Mavani, city Police Commissioner Sudhir Sinha and religious leaders have called for a peaceful conduct of the Ganesh immersion ceremony.

Meanwhile, authorities have decided to release more water from the Ukai dam in view of the Ganesh idol immersion in the Tapi river.
