Don't take Left support for granted, CITU tells UPA govt
Bellary, Sep 5 (UNI) Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) President M K Pandhe today said the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre should not take the outside support being extended by the Left parties for granted.
Talking to reporters, Mr Pandhe, who was here to take part in the on-going four-day state level CITU conference, said ''the Left is supporting the UPA only to stall the National Democratic Alliance from coming to power.'' He observed that a lot of changes were on the cards at the political front. The situation for emergence of a third front was still fluid. However, a lot of reallocations and regrouping of political parties would have to take place before the formation.
''If the emergence of a third front is inevitable, then it should be based on the aspirations of people and not mere regrouping of political parties at the time of elections,'' he opined.
Mr Pandhe said the Left parties Central Committee had called for a three-day meeting in New Delhi from September-24 to discuss the present position of the UPA government and take constructive decision on its future.
He said ''our August conference was only a warning to the UPA government for its failure to implement the policies drafted in the Common Minimum Programme. The September central committee meeting will review the performance of UPA government and will taken a decision,'' he added.
