Child trampled to death by elephant

Siliguri, Sep 5 (UNI) A one and half year old child was trampled to death by an elephant in Tundu tea estate under Nagrakata block of Jalpaiguri district last night.

Forest officials said the pachyderm entered the estate and after killing the baby, injured the mother and destroyed five huts.

As a result; people have become panicky and are staying awake the whole night with torches.

Over the last few weeks; elephants have been entering the surrounding villages following deforestation.
