BJP flays Centre's decision to waive off import duty on wheat
New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) The BJP today flayed the government's decision to waive off import duty on wheat by private players saying the effort would have no impact in easing the situation in the country.
Reacting to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar's announcement, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the FCI godowns were empty because several MNCs and Indian corporates were allowed to mop up and hoard wheat. Due to this, farmers were denied the due price affecting the Public Districution System, he added.
The government must now plan in advance to procure the food grains in adequate quantities paying the farmers their remunerative costs.
