ACC approves Shivshankar Menon for Foreign Sec

New Delhi, Sept 5: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr Shivshankar Menon, India's High Commissioner to Pakistan, as the new Foreign Secretary succeeding Mr Shyam Saran, it was officially announced here today.

Mr Menon, a 1972 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, will take over from October one, according to the official approval last night.

Mr Menon's name was announced last week end as the new Foreign Secretary to take over from Mr Shyam Saran from October one.

''The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr Shivshankar Menon, IFS (1972 batch) as Foreign Secretary with effect from October one in the vacancy arising on the retirement of Mr Shyam Saran (1970 batch IFS)...The official approval came last evening...," Officials said.
