Aamir asks for documentary proof on chinkara charges
Bhuj, Sep 5 (UNI) Filmstar Aamir Khan has demanded documentary evidence from the Gujarat Forest department about the charges of using a chinkara (an endangered deer) during the shooting of his Oscar-nominated film 'Lagaan' in Kutch six years back.
In reply to a legal notice, the actor's lawyer A Desai has asked the department to furnish details of the allegations and the documents in support of them.
Confirming this, Kutch Deputy Conservator of Forests (East) V T Korwadia said the department has given him all the necessary documents and asked him to reply immediately. ''It seems he wants to delay the matter. There will be no room for any excuses as we have all the details,'' he said.
He said the notice had been slapped on Aamir last month for violating the Wildife Protection Act 1972 for the alleged use of the chinkara and given him a week's time to reply.
The forest department had given him the notice following a complaint by the Gir Nature Youth Club.
