22 towns to be developed under CDP: Tuki

Itanagar, Sept 5: The union urban development ministry has earmarked Rs 50,000 crore for infrastructure development of cities and towns including 22 towns in Arunachal Pradesh, according to state urban development minister Nabam Tuki.

The projects under City Development Plan (CDP) would be completed within five years, Mr Tuki told sources here today.

CDP is a continuous process and there would be prospective planning for minimum twenty years. CDP is just a part of the centrally sponsored Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), he informed. The project would incorporate improvement of sectoral roads, national highways, drinking water projects, besides sewage disposal projects, the minister informed adding the approximate expenditure would be around 1000 crore for the state, which could be even more in the days to come.

The state government would go for preparation of detailed project report (DPR) for other projects under the JNNURM after completion of the CDP, which would be forwarded to the Centre for approval and sanction, he said. Meanwhile, during interactions with mediapersons yesterday, local MLA Kipa Babu informed that five pedestrian roads, three over-bridges in the Capital Complex were proposed under the CDP for Itanagar to improve the communication network. In order to draw a comprehensive policy, several public hearings were being held sector wise, which was expected to be completed in the next 15 days for forward submission of the proposals to the Centre, Mr Babu informed.

He said that Rs 11 crore water supply schemes for Naharlagun were expected to be commissioned by December next, while the work has started on the Rs 33 crore water supply scheme for Itanagar at upper side of Dharia Hill. Water supply schemes for Banderdewa, Nirjuli and Karsingsa have also been included in future development plan, he added.
