Worried depositors visit UWB branches
Kolhapur, Sep 4 (UNI) Heavy rush of depositors continued to throng United Western Bank (UWB) branches here zone to make frantic enquiries about their deposits since last two days.
The UWB was placed under moratorium by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for three months from Saturday allowing depositors to withdraw amounts up to Rs 10,000 each only.
The RBI directive sent a strong wave of fear among the depositors who made a beeline in the branches to get further information about their deposits.
Deposits of Rs 60 crore of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporations' (KMC) are with the bank, which possibly will adversely affect the KMC works as salaries of KMC employees are held up in the bank, KMC sources said today.
Under the Kolhapur zone, about 50 to 55 branches of UWB are functioning in districts like Kolhapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg besids neighbouring Goa and Karnataka states, according to UWB sources here.
