MRPS to meet PM to press for SC categorisation

Hyderabad, Sep 4 (UNI) Coinciding with the visit of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to New Delhi, a delegation of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS), a Dalit outfit, will call upon Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow to press for immediate enactment of a legislation to provide for categorisation of SCs.

In the wake of the MRPS stir coinciding with the All India Congress Committee(AICC) plenary here in January, Dr Reddy had promised to hasten the process of introduction of the bill in Parliament before the start of the academic year and to ensure that admissions to educational institutions and appointments to government jobs were not affected, MRPS President M Krishna Madiga claimed at a press conference here.

Even when the matter was sub-judice, the State Administrative Tribunal had opened a 'pandora's box' by directing the State Government to recast the selection list made as per SC categorisation, affecting the interests of the Madigas, he alleged.

Demanding the Chief Minister to order status quo to avoid 'chaos and confusion,' the Dalit leader threatened to revive its agitation if no concrete steps were taken to protect the interests of Madigas.
