Four office goers wounded after century-old building collapsed

Kolkata, Sep 4 (UNI) Four people were injured when the portico of a centry old multi-storied building caved in near Calcutta High court today.

Deputy Commissioner (Central) Ajoy Ranade said several people were feared trapped inside the 100-year-old building.

Police and fire brigade personnel were enganged in a salvage operation removing debris in search of life.

Mr Ranade said the condition of one of the injured was serious.

All of them have been admitted to a hopstial.

The incident occurred at 9.30 am when the portico caved in from a hight of about 40 feet hitting four office goers on the pavement below.

Mr Ranade said the incessant rains for the past few days might have caused collapse of the portico.
