Hyderabad, Sep 4 (UNI) Refuting senior BJP leader L K Advani's charge that the Congress had 'cheated' the people on the issue of statehood for Telangana, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) spokesman G Muddkrishnamma Naidu today accused the BJP of adopting 'double standards.' Addressing a press conference at the CLP office here, he recalled that though the Congress had passed a resolution demanding constitution of the Second States' Reorganisation Commission to decide on the issue, the BJP then heading the NDA had rejected the demand.

Mr Advani was only misleading the people now on the issue of national importance at a time when the Congress was earnestly trying to evolve a consensus, he said, adding that some of the parties supporting the UPA Government like the Left Parties, DMK and Samajawadi Party had not informed their stand on the issue so far.

At an another press meet at the Gandhi Bhavan, Party official spokesperson P Venkata Rao alleged that BJP, which had maintained a 'stoic silence' while heading the NDA, was now raking up the issue with 'ulterior political motives.' While talking about division of Andhra Pradesh, why was he (Mr Advani) silent now on the demands for formation of new states in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, he asked.
