CM demands changes in draft Master Plan of Delhi
New Delhi, Sep 4 (UNI) With hundreds of schools facing the heat due to the court-ordered ongoing MCD and DDA sealing and demolition drives, the Delhi Government today sought help from the Centre to allow the schools to function in residential areas so as to achieve the goals of Universal Elementary Education.
Moreover, all coaching institutions established in residential and non-conforming areas should be allowed to function in areas where mixed land use is permitted so as to ensure security to female students, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was reported to have said in a letter to Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy.
Ms Dikshit said there was need for making land use flexible and less cumbersome for institutions. Roads having more than 70 per cent commercial activities should be straightaway notified as commercial without going through the process of first declaring it as mixed land use, she said while also suggesting other changes in the Draft Master Plan.
According to an official spokesman, the Government also suggested that repair of two wheeler and cycle rickshaw should be allowed in mixed land use in these categories and workshops of three-wheelers /cars/automobiles be allowed on 30 meter wide road in these categories of colonies.
