Ambulance driver arrested for causing patient's death

Kozhikode, Sep 4 (UNI) Police arrested an ambulance driver here for negligence while on duty causing the death of a patient.

Medical College Police today said driver Mohan Das, assigned to shift Aroli Raghuraman (55) from Beach Hospital to Kozhikode Medical College last night, was arrested in an inebriated condition last night.

According to an FIR, Mohan Das left the vehicle carrying the patient, who was in a serious condition, midway to the referral hospital.

He ignored the repeated requests of the patient's relatives to take him to hospital.

The patient, who was later rushed to MCH by local people and the police, died soon after reaching there.

Police said a case has been registered against the driver as medical examination proved he was drunk.

Meanwhile hospital sources said stringent departmental action will be initiated against the driver for dereliction of duty.
