Suspected militants' masterplan to explode GRIDCO foiled
Silchar, Sep 3 (UNI) The alleged attempt of militants to explode the 132 KV Extra High Voltage (EHV) power line of the Power Grid Corporation of India at Lalpani of Cachar district, in Asom was foiled due to timely recovery of the bombs.
Cachar Superintendent of Police Satyen Gogoi today said he noticed a Grid worker engaged in work near Haflong-Jiribam 132 KV EHV power line inside the forest near Asom-Manipur border area yesterday.
Suspecting foul play, the SP immediately informed the Jiriaghat police, who along with the Sribar-based 306 Field Regiment army, rushed to the spot and recovered eight explosive devices planted near the high voltage electricity line tower.
The entire area was cordoned off to defuse the explosives, police said.
They further said it might be the handiwork of some suspected militants who planted the explosives to blow the tower.
The capacity and nature of the explosive objects were yet to be examined, the SP said.
The miscreants were also to be identified, he added.
