PSPB men, RSPB eves emerge victorious

Bangalore, Sep 3 (UNI) Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) men and Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) women lifted the title in their respective categories in the 36th All India Inter-Institutional Table Tennis Championship here today.

While RSPB eves created a major upset and dashed the hopes of PSPB to lift the title for the third consecutive time 3-1, PSPB men avenged the defeat of their women's side by downing RSPB with an identical score.

National Champion A Sharat Kamal (World ranking - 118) was the main architect of the PSPB victory. In the opening match, Sharat had to sweat it out as after winning the first set (12-10), he lost the second (7-11). However, he bounced back to win the third and fourth sets with an identical score of 11-9 and won the game. In the last match also, it was not a cakewalk for him as he lost the first set (7-11), but regrouped himself to win the remaining three sets and the match.

He was ably supported by SAF Games runner up S Subhajit Saha who defeated S Chakraborty in straight sets (3-0). However, Arjuna awardee Soumyadeep Roy lost to Amal Raj (2-3).
