Indore, Sep 3 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar today hoped that the state's BJP government would conduct an impartial probe into Professor H S Sabharwal's death during a students' union poll in Ujjain.

''Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured an inquiry and I am hopeful that justice will be delivered,'' he told reporters here.

Regarding the government's report on the matter, the Governor said he was yet to peruse the document.

Stressing the need to reform students' elections, he described the incident as a blot on the state.

''Only students should take part in the poll process and no external elements ought to be allowed. I urge the teaching community to come forward and help the police in exposing the culprits,'' Dr Jakhar added.

On the 'Vande Mataram' debate, he said it was upto the individual whether he or she desired to sing the National Song.

Regarding the abysmal conditions of monsoon-battered roads, the Governor said action should be initiated against those responsible for construction.

Earlier, Dr Jakhar inaugurated a diamonds exhibition and urged greater utilisation of Panna district's mines.
