Nepal unaware of Ukranian arms import: Fin Min

Kathmandu, Sept 3: Nepal Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said that the government had no idea about arms shipment from Ukraine to his country via India, media reports said.

"It is not only me, even the government is unaware of this issue," Kantipur quoted Finance Minister as saying.

'I learnt only through media reports about an arms-carrying airplane was detained at Ahmedabad in India.' Mahat said he had come to learn about the arms deal made by the royal government last year and the government is investigating as to how the weapons were brought to India,adding that the newly-formed democratic government did not make any arms deal.

The minister vowed to send the weapons back if they were indeed on their way to Nepal.

"Even if they are to be brought in, they could be stored and not used against the people," he added.
