Manmohan's policy and Buddhadeb's work not different: Ramesh
Aizawl, Sep 3 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh lambasted the Leftists for their campaign aganist the new economic policy and globalisation move of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Talking to mediapersons here, he made it clear that the UPA government has adopted economic liberalisation and foreign direct investment in Indian industry and trades only to compete with the so called economic superpower of the world.
Ridiculing the Left's anti-disinvestment and globalisation campaign, Mr Ramesh said, ''Mr Manmohan's economic policy is in no way different from what Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is doing in West Bengal now; it will not be wrong to call Manmohan Bhattacharjee and Buddhadeb Singh.'' ''I feel the Leftists have already realised the necessity of globalisation and that's why the Left Front governments in West Bengal and Tripura are welcoming private investment and offering subsidies to private investors,'' he said.
He indicated that the economic liberalisation and globalisation were the needs of the hour and nobody could stop these in the present global atmosphere.
Mr Ramesh, however, underlined that even though the Congress and the Left parties had slight differences on some particular issues, the unity of the UPA with the alliance would remain strong.
