Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Sep 3 (UNI) A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in his house at Valivade village in Karvir tehsil of this district.

The deceased, identified as Maruti Kedar Salokhe (40), allegedly committed suicide by having himself yesterday, police said today.

For last two years, Salokhe suffered loss due to damage to his sugarcane crops in floods. This year too, he sold his buffaloes for cane plantation but the crop was severely affected in recent floods.

Frustrated over the continuous losses and his inability to repay the money taken from people and the increase in loan amount he might have taken the extreme step, police added.
