Bhopal, Sep 3 (UNI) Slamming the Congress-led UPA regime's ''anti-people'' policies, the CPI(M) today demanded that the tax structure be improved for checking inflation.

''The Left parties will continue to protest against such policies. The Centre failed to implement the CMP and is constantly turning a Nelson's eye on alliance partners,'' CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat told reporters here.

Expressing concern over spiralling costs, he pointed out that the communists handed over a five-point programme to the Centre one-and-a-half years back but no positive inititative was taken.

''Consumer durables should be kept out of the futures market and the PDS should be strengthened. The decision to set up 200 SEZs across India ought to be reconsidered. The CPI(M) does not oppose SEZs but is against acquisition of land from farmers and other poor persons' and handing over to capitalists for peanuts,'' Comrade Karat added.

Pointing out that 25,000 acres were acquired by the Centre in Haryana, he said factories would be set up on 25 per cent of this area while the rest would be used for commercial complexes and other work.

''I oppose reduction of PDS quota for states. Thanks to the Centre's agriculture and oil policies, 55 lakh tonnes wheat are being imported. A declining output will jeopardise the situation,'' Mr Karat added.
