Cong will achieve nothing from convention: Kumaraswamy

Bangalore, Sep 3 (UNI) The Congress will not gain anything from the party convention it had organised today by spending crores of Rupees to mark the merger of AIPJD with the party, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.

Speaking to reportes on the sidelines of a function in the city, he said the party should explain to the people why it was wasting such huge amounts of money on such useless things.

The Congress, despite ruling the country and the State for over five decades, had betrayed the people of Karnataka on both the border row with Maharashtra and river water disputes. It had badly failed to live up to the expectations of the people, who had supported the party for such a long time, he said.

Mr Kumaraswamy said the border issue involving Belgaum city was a sentimental one for the people of Karnataka and the Union Government should take steps to check vested interests in the Congress in Maharashtra from making it a political issue.

The all-party delegation which met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently had clearly stated Karnataka's stand on the issue. Despite this, the UPA Government at the Centre was adopting a dual stand against the interests of the State and it would be held responsible for the repercussions, he warned.
