Urdu schools in eleventh plan: Fatmi

Hyderabad, Sept 2 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development M A A Fatmi today said the Centre was planning to set up higher secondary schools in Urdu medium in 125 districts and 200 ITI institutes during the Eleventh Plan beginning from 2007.

Addressing a gathering, after unveiling the plaque of 'Centre for Professional Development of Urdu Medium Teachers' at Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Mr Fatmi said the HRD Minister Arjun Singh and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were impressed with the report submitted by the univeristy.

They also recommended that the setting up of Urdu schools should be on par with the standards followed by Kendria Vidyalayas and Navodaya schools in the country.

The proposed Urdu schools would provide standard education and accomodation to the poor students, he added.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who also assisted the university in preparing the report, said the report recommended the government to allocate Rs 2,800 crore for establishing the Urdu schools and 80 polytechnic institutes in the Eleventh Plan. The Centre had agreed to establish a Urdu medium CBSE school in the city.
