Two military farm officials convicted
Bangalore Sep 2 (UNI) A special court handling CBI cases has convicted three officials of a military farm on charges of criminal conspiracy in the purchase of hay from Torangal in Bellary district.
According to a CBI release, the officials K Gunavelu, Farm Officer, Military Farm, and P M K Vinodh Kumar, Sub-Assistant Supervisor entered into a criminal conspiracy with Bellary based contractor A Siva Reddy, during 1995 and 1996 in the matter of payment of bill towards procurement of hay at Hay Procuement Centre, torangal in Bellary district.
They had allegedly created false documents and made false entries in the books thereby cheating the government to the tune of Rs.7.83 lakhs.
A case was registered in 1997 against them under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Additional civil and Sessions Judge A Pandit, who is also a special judge in the CBI court, convicted the three officials of criminal conpiracy, cheating and criminal misconduct.
The accused P M K Vinodh Kumar was sentenced to a rigorous imprisonment for four years and a fine of Rs 38,000 was also imposed on him, while K Gunavelu and A Siva Reddy were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of three and half years with a fine of Rs 23,000 and Rs 13,000 repectively, the release added.
