TN Assembly adjourned sine die

Chennai, Sep 2 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Assembly was today ajourned sine die after a month-long session.

The session, which began on July 22 with the presentation of the DMK Government's maiden budget by Finance Minister K Anbazhagan, lasted for 31 days.

A resolution condoling the death of Tamil girls in an airstrike at Senjolai in Sri Lanka and condemning the Sri Lankan army for the action was also unanimously passed during the sesion.

The House okayed as many as 23 bills including indirect election of Mayors of Corporations and chairmen of Municipalities and Town Panchayats, declaration of late Chief Minister K Kamaraj's birthday on July 15 as 'Educational Development Day' and exemption of licensed software with complete Tamil version, hank yarn and gum benzoin (sambirani) from levy of sales tax.

The session was held in a smootth manner, except on a few occassions when treasury and opposition benches locked horns and exchanged heated arguments.

There were also instances when lively and witty debates were witnessed, one of which was when leader of the Opposition J Jayalalithaa attended the proceedings to wind up the debate on the budget.
