Scietists should help farmers prevent crop loss: Minister

Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 2 (UNI) Scientists should find ways to help farmers contain the crop losses during calamities, Andhra Pradesh Roads and Buildings Minister Jakkampudi Ramamohan Rao said here today.

Inaugurating a day long-workshop organised by Coconut Development Board, Centre and state Department of Horticulture on the occassion of World Coconut Day, Mr Rao said funds were adequate to step up agriculture and its related sectors and the onus to help farmers procure the latest technology and thus improve yield was now on the scientists.

He said scientists should also bring awareness among farmers that the funds would be spent more for the bettering yield.

Speaking on the occassion, State Animal Husbandry Minister Gollapalli Surya Rao said research on coconut would yield good results in the coming days. He, however, cautioned farmers from being influenced by the information given by electronic media, as the ground reality was far from what was being telecast.

Farmers should also not fall prey to the schemes of crafty middlemen, he added.
