Chennai, Sept 2 (UNI) Ms Banumathy Ammal, grand-mother of Union Information and Communication Minister Dayanidhi Maran died here today.

Banumathi Ammal, 85, was was admitted to Apollo hospital yesterday morning following a heart attack, family sources said.

Her daughter Mallika Maran was married to late Union Minister Murasoli Maran.

Despite the bereavement, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who was uncle of Murasoli Maran, however attended the assembly today.

After the House was adjourned, Mr Karunanidhi visited Maran's residence and paid floral tributes.
