Probe into Push Trolley-Train hit mishap ordered
Tiruchirapalli, Sep 2 (UNI) The Southern Railway has ordered a Departmental Inquiry into the hitting of a 'Push Trolley' by the Madurai-bound 1043 Lokamanya Tilak Kurla Express, which claimed the lives of three railway employees, including two track women, at 'Ayyalur Cutting' between Kalpatti Chathiram and Ayyalur, about 70 km from here this morning.
Madurai division Senior Divisional Engineer (Coordination) T Arjunan, after inspecting the site told UNI that the mishap happened due to negligence by a seven-member-team which had travelled in the Push Trolley.
However, what led to the mishap would be known only after probe, he said.
Though it was a routine inspection carried out once in a fortnight, the team, despite carrying walkie-talkie and other gadgets for communication had failed to hear the approaching train, he added.
He said Track Inspector Jahir Hussain, one among the four injured was placed under suspension for failing to ensure the safety of his sub-ordinates.
Mr Arjunan, accompanied by Divisional Safety Officer Prakash inquired about the incident with the locals and railway officials.
The deceased, who died on the spot were Mrs Periakka (50), Mrs Muthulakshmi (48) and Vellaiyan (52).
Four others, who had escaped with minor injuries, were admitted to a private hospital.
