PPCC chief for poll alliance with Left
Chandigarh, Sep 23 (UNI) Punjab Congress chief Shamsher Singh Dullo today said the party's alliance with the Left would keep the secular votes intact in the coming state Assembly polls.
''The alliance with the Left would definitely help the secular parties in defeating the communal forces (BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal),'' Mr Dullo said at a press conference here.
Mr Dullo's stand for an alliance with the Left holds significance in the backdrop of the Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's opinion that such a partnership would rather harm the Congress in the state.
Capt Amarinder Singh had stated at a press conference here last week that he had informed his viewpoint against an alliance with the Left to the party high command.
The CPI had an alliance with the ruling Congress in the last Assembly polls and had won two seats out of the eight left by the Congress.
The CPI (M) had lost in all the five segments left by the Congress.
