Bangalore, Sep 2 (UNI) Software major Infosys non-executive chairman N R Narayanamurthy has agreed to head the Karnataka State Vision Group.

Mr Narayanamurthy who retired as Chairman of the company on August 20 had in a letter dated August 26 accepted Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kuamraswamy's invitation to head the Vision Group.

In a brief communication to the Chief Minister, he referred to the invitation and said ''I am grateful to you for inviting me to chair the State Vision Group. It will be both a privilege and pleasure to do so''.

Mr Kumaraswamy, participating in the silver jubilee celebrations of Infosys at its Mysore Campus last month had requested Mr Narayanamurthy to lend his guidance to the development of IT in the state. In response, Mr Narayanamurthy had indicated that he would be most happy to do so, but much depended upon his schedule for the next three years. ''I have to look into my diary for the next three years'' he had indicated.

Mr Narayanamurthy, stung by the criticism of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda over his contribution to the Bangalore International Airport project, fast coming up in Devanahalli, on the outskirts of the city, had resigned from the post of Chairmanship.

However, said he his absence would not matter much as the financial closure for the project had been finalised before he resigned. He was sure the project would come up fast. But his main cause of concern was whether there would be a proper road connecting the airport to the city.

Mr Narayanamurthy had earlier headed the Karnataka Taskforce on IT Hardware during the regime of Chief Minsiter S M Krishna.
