Lok Adalats render quality justice: Chief Justice
Bangalore, Sep 2 (UNI) Holding of Lok Adalats will not only help reduce the burden on the judicial delivery system but also render quality justice to the litigant public, Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph said today.
Speaking after launching of a state-wide special drive of Lok Adalats, organised jointly by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and Bangalore district Legal services authorities here.
He said the aim of the Lok Adalats was to deliver justice at speed with less cost.
The Lok Adalats apart from saving time, energy and resources for the litigant public reduced the burden on the judicial system and thereby helps to deliver quality justice. The Lok Adalats would benefit all the stakeholders involved in the process of the delivery of justice, Mr Joseph added.
The Justice also said that the Karnataka High Court would work for additional 12 days as part of celebrating the 50th year of state's formation, after taking into confidence the state bar council and the advocates association.
He said the special drive of Lok Adalats was conceived as a meaningful exercise as a part of the celebration of Golden Jubilee year of the state and expressed confidence that large number of cases can be settled.
Justice V Gopala Gowda, Karnataka High Court Judge and the Executive Chairman of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, who also spoke on the occasion said the Lok Adalat system was a not a new phenomena and it was a part of ancient adjudication system in the country. Out-of court settlement of disputes would help in disposing off cases expeditiously with minimal expenses, he said.
