Independent candidate withdraws from Bongaon bypol

Barasat, Sep 2 (UNI) Trinamool Congress member Gopal Seth withdrew his nomination for the September 16 byelection to Bongaon Assembly seat on the last day of withdrawal today.

Mr Seth filed his nomination paper as an Independent candidate to mark his protest against the party leadership for fielding veteran leader Saugata Roy instead of him.

Altogether five candidates remained the fray after the withdrawal.

The byelection was necessitated following the death of influential Trinamool Congress leader Bhupen Seth, father of Mr Gopal Seth.

Mr Roy had to lick dust from Dhakuria seat in the last Assembly election.
