Hakim Ajmal Khan Awards announced

New Delhi, Sep 2 (UNI) Seven physicians, three drugs manufacturing companies and two medical institutes will get the Hakim Ajmal Khan Global Awards for 2006, it was announced today.

Dr Karin Pirc (Ayurveda) of Bad Ems Germany, S A Roy of Calicut, Kerala (Unani), Sayyed B A Karim of Mumbai (Unani), V K Jain of Delhi (Acupuncture), Sachindra Joshi of Mumbai (Homeopathy), Kiran Kukreja of Delhi (Allopathy) and M Ashraf of Delhi (Allopathy) were selected for the best physician award for the year, the Hakim Ajmal Khan Memorial Society said.

Hermes Unani Herbal Pharmacy, Calicut, and Neelam Unani Laboratories, Ghaziabad, were voted the best unani drug manufacturing companies. Hootone Remedies, Mumbai, won a special award for an anti-HIV drug it has manufactured.

The Deoband Unani Medical College and the Jiva Institute of Vaishnava Studies, Vrindavan, were selected as the best institutes of learning for Indian systems of medicine for the year, Society General Secretary Aslam Javed informed reporters.

The awards, comprising a momento and a citation, would be presented later this month.
