Eminent lawyer, dramatist passes away

Puri, Sep 2 (UNI) Eminent lawyer, author and dramatist Purna Chandra Kanungo died this morning following protracted illness, family sources said. He was 77.

He is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter.

Kanungo's legal career spanned over five decades.

He too had a successful tryst with the pen and authored 26 Oriya plays. Some of the popular ones were Abhisapta Ghungura, Duiti Rakta Golap, Debadasi, Kalapahada and Samrat Chandragupta.

He was presented the prestigious Orissa Sangeet Natak Academy award in 1991.

Kanungo was honoured with ''Ganakabi Baishnab Pani Samman'', ''Bishuv Puraskar'' and ''Srikhetra Sri'' awards for his contribution in the field of literature.
