BMC announces Ganesh Gaurav awards

Mumbai, Sep 2 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today announced the Ganesh Gaurav awards for the year 2006 with National Sports Board from Naigaum bagging the first prize.

The awards were announced by Mayor Datta Dalvi and commissioner Johnny Joseph at the civic headquarters here this afternoon.

The first prize comprises a cash of Rs 20,000. The second prize, carrying Rs 10,000, has been won by the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Andheri, while Sewri Central Zone Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal will get Rs 4,000 as third prize.

Rajan Zhad will receive the best sculptor award, carrying Rs 2000, for his idol at Bal Mitra Mandal in Vikroli. Mr Vaibhav Sawant will get the best design award for his creation at the Parshiwadi Mitra Mandal Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal at the Arthur Road Naka.

Govind Art (Sujan Seva Mandal Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal, Juhu) will get Rs 1000 as encouragement prize along with Arvind Katke for the decoration of his Ganesh mandal at Dharavi.

The BMC will also issue certificates of excellence to different Ganesh mandals for their role in social service and creating awareness about different social issues.

This is the 19th year of the Ganesh Gaurav awards and 68 Ganesh mandals participated in the competition.
