BJP 'careless' in flood relief work: Gehlot
Ajmer, Sep 2 (UNI) Congress National General secretary Ashok Gehlot has charged the BJP government with being 'careless' in conducting relief work in flood-affected regions of the state.
He also alleged the state government always exaggerates the loss figures in the floods and cribs that the Centre is not providing adequate aid. Whereas Rajasthan is being given grants as decided by the former National Democratic Alliance at the Centre.
The former chief minister said hundreds of people have died in Barmer and Jodhpur districts and many others have become homeless.
He said if the state government had taken precautionary measures before the monsoons, the flood crisis could have been averted.
He alleged instead of conducting a flood survey, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was busy in party activities.
Elaborating on the havoc created by the floods, he said hundreds of people are still taking refuge on the roofs of their homes as the water still has not receded. He said the state government should think of their rehabilitation first.
He said the people there are angry and upset over the lackdaisical attitude of the state government.
He said the state government should be happy that the flood-affected people have been benefitted after the tour of Congress president Mrs Sonia Gandhi, instead of criticising the visit.
Commenting on the Vande Mataram controversy, Mr Gehlot said the national patriotic song should be sung by all but if singing the song goes against the tenets of Islam, it should not be made into a issue.
