21st Indian Engineering Congress, first time in NE

Guwahati, Sep 2 (UNI) The 21st Indian Engineering Congress, will be held at Guwahati, first time in North Eastern region, from December 21 to 24.

The congress would be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh.

Chairman of the organising committee P K Goswami told newsmen here today that about 2000 delegates from across the globe would participate in this event.

There would be a few memorial lectures and an interactive event known as 'Glimpses of Engineering personalities' during the congress, the chairman said.

The technical experts and the administrators would deliver their thematic lectures in every session of the seminar, Mr Goswami said.

The event would be organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), world's largest professional organisation, he said.

The institute, striving to uphold the best traditions of engineering practices, would thrust upon the ''Challenges of engineering for sustainable 10 percent growth and beyond'', he said.

Such congresses would lead to the region's economic development if planned properly.

The estimated expenditure of the congress is around Rs 80 lakhs, the organisers said.

Chairman of AICCTE Dr Damodar Acharya, Director (onshore) of ONGC Ajit Hazarika, former Chairman of Central Water Commission Dr R Rangachari, VC of Central Agriculture University Prof S N Puri are expected to attend, he informed.
