US Airways plane evacuated in Miami after fire
MIAMI, Aug 31 (Reuters) Passengers on a US Airways Boeing 737 were evacuated down slides today after their aircraft's landing gear caught fire as it landed at Miami International Airport on a flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, officials said.
''The crew reported smoke and fire from the left main landing gear,'' a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said.
She had no immediate word about injuries but Miami television stations said all 94 passengers and the crew on board US Airways flight 431 were safely evacuated.
The fire had been extinguished, a Miami-Dade fire service spokesman told Miami's WSVN television, adding that flames anywhere near a fueled aircraft were always a big concern.
