Uma against student union elections
Raisen, MP, Sep 1 (UNI) Bharatiya Jan Shakti President Uma Bharti today demanded a ban on student unions election as it provided opportunity to powerful students to terrorise other students.
Ms Bharti told reporters here that political parties merely intended to increase their vote bank by playing politics among students.
She said she had distanced herself from the BJP but not the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). She would hold discussion with ABVP leaders in this regard.
The fiery sanyasin said Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's statement describing Professor Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal's death as an accident despite the fact that CID inquiry was awaited in the case was childish.
Ms Bharti, who was here to attend a meeting of party office bearers, said the BJS would announce the name of its candidate for by-election from Budhni assembly constituency on September 5.
However, they will not make the Vidisha bypoll a prestige issue, she insisted.
