TRS to withdraw support from UPA Govt

Hyderabad, Sep 1 (UNI) The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has decided to withdraw its support from the UPA Government, TRS President K Chandrasekara Rao said tonight.

Addressing a press conference here, after a meeting with the party MPs, MLAs and functionaries, he said, ''Morally, we have already come out of the UPA after myself and my colleague A Narendra and I resigned from the Central cabinet.

''Withdrawal of support is only a part of technicality and I will write to the President on my return to New Delhi. I will explain to the people of Telangana through a series of meetings about the betrayal done by the Congress.'' Ruling out the option of joining hands with the BJP, Mr Rao said, ''let it (BJP) work independently.'' Asked why the party was hesitant to have truck with the BJP, he said, ''People very well know what the BJP had done when it led the NDA Government.'' About the possiblity of a political realignment in the state, he said ''still a lot of time is left to discuss on that.'' Stating that the party was ready for any mid-term elections, he said ''some signals are emanating in this regard. Let us see how the situation develops.'' He said the party would intensify the struggle for seperate statehood for Telangana. A massive public meeting at Siddipet on September 8 would be organised to expose the alleged 'duplicity' of the Congress.

He said the party activists would 'gherao; Congress ministers from Telangana to mount pressure on the Congress to honour its promise made to the people of Telangana.
