Task force formed to check drug smuggling

Kolkata, Sep 1 (UNI) The West Bengal Government has constituted a joint task force to control rampant smuggling of drugs in the state from across the international borders.

Official sources today said the task force, to be headed by an official of the rank of Inspector General of Police, comprised senior officials of police, BSF and customs.

'' Over the past few years there has been a spurt in smuggling of drugs from across the borders with Bangladesh and Nepal. A recent intelligence report has said Coochbehar, Darjeeling and the Sundarbans are the gateways of such drug inflows,'' the sources said.

They said after getting entry into West Bengal the drug consignments find different routes including Orissa and Jharkhand.
