Special courts to try power theft cases inaugurated
New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) A special court for trying power theft cases was inaugurated by Delhi High Court acting Chief Justice Virender Jain at Patparganj in the capital today, the BSES said.
Two similar courts -- at Vikaspuri and Malviya Nagar for BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd -- would be inaugurated soon, a BSES spokesman said. The special court at Patparganj would be for the BSES Yamuna Power Ltd.
According to the BSES, the setting up of the courts exclusively for trying power theft cases could act as a deterrent to those who steal power.
Since 2002, BSES has booked over 43,000 cases of power theft.
Over the last one year, the BRPL and BYPL have filed around 1900 cases in the three special courts currently in operation.
