Pondy Assembly adopts resolutions urging centre for quota

Pondicherry, Sep 1 (UNI) The Pondicherry Assembly today unanimously adopted a government resolution urging the Centre to promulgate an ordinance for providing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions, including the IITs and IIMs.

Moving the resolution, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said though a Bill in this regard was introduced in Parliament on August 25, it would be taken up for consideration in the next session of the House.

'' Since, it would ensure the progress of the backward classes and ensure equal justice, the quota should be implemented through an Ordinance instead of implementing it in a phased manner'' Mr Rangasamy said.

Later, the House unanimously adopted the resolution.

The Assembly also unanimously adopted another resolution urging the Centre to give concurrence for the introduction of a Bill seeking to obtain 50 per cent reservation for local students in private professional colleges here and also regulating the fee structure in such instititons barring those with minority status.
