Manipur launches tourism website

Imphal, Sep 1 (UNI) With an aim to woo tourists to Manipur, state Tourism Minister T N Haokip launched the official tourism website here.

Mr Haokip yesterday said the official website, www.manipurtourism.co.in, has been prepared by a software company Xtreme Wave.

Tourism had become the most enterprising industry in the world today and generates a lot of scope for employment, he said.

The minister said most of the countries were now thriving on tourism and the state has also ample potential to convert it into a hot tourist destination.

He also said Manipur is similar to Switzerland in landscape and scenic beauty.

''But we are not attracting tourists due to lack of infrastructure,'' he said.

In Switzerland one can visit seven cities in just one day due to the excellent infrastructure and communications.

''Off late the concept has changed and all sorts of bookings are done through the internet. We can have good tourist network with the Asian countries due to our proximity towards them and start transport services to the neighbouring Asian countries,'' he said.

Initially this website would provide informations related to history, culture and heritage of the state, he said.

Later on the website would provide platform for marketing and advertisements so that people would be able to know more about the state, said Xtreme Wave vice president H Anil.
