Madani's bail plea adjourned to Sept 8

Chennai, Sep 1 (UNI) Madras High Court today adjourned to September eight hearing of the bail application filed by Kerala-based People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nasar Madani, who was arrested in connection with the Coimbatore serial blast case in 1998.

When the bail application came up for hearing before Justice M Thanikachalam, Advocate General R Viduthalai submitted that special ayurvedic treatment was given to Mr Madani in the prison. The government also permitted engaging special doctors to treat him and to change his artificial limb, he added.

Further, he contended that the trial in the blast case was nearing completion and so bail should not be granted to him.

Senior counsel N Natarajan, appearing for the accused, submitted that Madani's health condition was very bad and pleaded that he should be given treatment in Kerala or a special team of doctors be formed to give Ayurvedic treatment to the PDP leader in the jail.

Mr Viduthalai said he would get instructions from the government about the ayurvedic treatment being extended to him in prison.

Following this, the judge adjourned the hearing to September eight.
