Jaya objects to Left attending CM's dinner
Chennai, Sep 1 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today accused the Left parties of being 'opportunistic' and changing their policies according to the situation.
'For them, whatever Chief Minister M Karunanidhi does is right.
If I do anything, it is wrong' she said in a statement here.
Stating it was a tradition for the Chief Minister to host dinner for legislators at the end of the budget session, Ms Jayalalithaa said she had upheld the tradition during her rule in 1991-1996.
When she arranged such a dinner during her regime in 2001-2006, the then CPI(M) floor leader J Hemachandran severely criticised it.
He had charged the Government with wasting taxpayers' money by hosting dinner at a five-star hotel when the poor were suffering in poverty. Consequently, the dinner was cancelled, she recalled.
Now, Ms Jayalalithaa said, the DMK Government had arranged a dinner for legislators at a star hotel today, which the Communist MLAs were all set to attend.
The poor were still living in penury and the Government was arranging dinner with taxpayers' money. 'How can Communists accept the invitation now,'? she asked and termed them 'opportunists.' UNI AKN VA PM1757
