Mumbai, Sep 1 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today reserved its order on a petition filed by Dance Bar Owners Association president Manjit Singh Sethi challenging the sentence awarded to him for breach of privilege of the State Legislatively Assembly.

Sethi, after Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil announced a ban on dance bars, had allegedly made a threatening statement that the wives of ministers would not be allowed to move freely. The statement was construed as a breach of privilege of the House and Sethi was slapped with a 90-day jail term.

Every time the House is in session, Sethi has to surrender himself and on prorogation of the session, he would be released.

This would continue till the 90-day sentence is completed. Sethi has already been in custody twice since the sentence was awarded.

Sethi's counsel Mahesh Jethmalani contended before the court that the statement had not been made by his client. Sethi had only echoed to a journalist what dance bar girls had stated during a meeting held by them. He contended that following the prorogation of the first session of the House when the sentence was awarded, Sethi could not be subsequently held.

A full bench comprising justices Dr S Radhakrishnan, V M Kanade and S B Deshmukh heard the arguments and reserved its order.
