HC directs examination of DMET answer sheets

Jabalpur, Sep 1 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court today directed that the answer sheets of the Dental and Medical Entrance Test (DMET) be examined by Registrar committee.

Hearing a petition by Indore-based Sanjay Patni Golu besides other petitions challenging the cancellation of the DMET, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Anang Kumar Patnaik and Justice Suresh Chandra Sinho directed the Association of Private Medical and Dental College -- which conducted the DMET -- to provide the list of examinees to the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB).

The Bench directed the Registrar to present a report before the court after examining the answer sheets by September 11.

Petitioner's counsel S N Kale told the court that the DMET -- for admission into private medical and dental colleges -- was conducted on August 13 by an unbiased committee.

After complaints of irregularities in the DMET surfaced, on the directions of the Supreme Court, the state government formed Justice Chandresh Bhushan Committee, which cancelled the examination on August 19.

Mr Kale described cancelling the examination as illegal and unconstitutional.

Respondent DMET organisation's counsel said the test was conducted impartially and the answer sheets of all the examinees were kept in a bank locker under the supervision of Justice Bhushan Committee.

State Advocate General Ravinandan Singh told the court that irregularities had been found in about 400 cases. He described cancelling the DMET as appropriate.
