Jaipur, Sept 1 (UNI) At least 35 people, trapped in rising waters in two canals after a heavy downpour in Jhalawar district, were rescued today.

After heavy rains yesterday, the water level started rising and 35 people including a two-month old infant took refuge on a hill top.

Ashish Prabhakar, a police official in Aklera told UNI that these people were rescued with the help of ropes and tyres. Some of the people, exhausted and fatigued, after spending the night on the hill top, have been admitted to a hospital.

Mr Prabhakar said these people were travelling in three vehicles and passing through the Aklera-Khanpur road, which runs between two canals, got trapped in the rising waters and took shelter on a small hilltop.

He said the water rose in the canals after it was released from Chapi dam. Moreover, the water levels rose in Dhar Ganga resulting in water rise in the canals.

These people reached the hill top but could not find a way to get out.
